I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

Many appliances and fixtures have isolating valves that you can turn off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating tap below or beside the cistern. If you can’t locate a tap, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains isolating valve to stop all water to the residence.

Once that is sorted, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be with you shortly to resolve the problem.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, start mopping up any water, position a container to catch any drips, and clear away important things from the affected area. If the house water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.
