I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your home. If you’re unable to find the water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside your home to depressurise the pipework and reduce the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a call, no matter what the day or time is. We’ll be there rapidly to fix the leak.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, start wiping up any water, position a container to catch drips, and clear away significant possessions from the affected area. If the mains water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
