I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve or at the mains valve outside. If you can’t locate the main isolation valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that is sorted, give us a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We’ll be there promptly to resolve the problem.

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any important possessions close to the leak, and wipe up any water or put a container to catch the drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
