I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve or at the mains valve outside. If you can’t find the water main valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold taps inside and out to help depressurise the household pipework and minimise the leak.

Now give our on call plumbers a ring, any time day or night. We will be there as soon as possible to resolve the problem.

In the meantime, start mopping up any water, put a container to catch any drips, and remove important things from the affected area. If the house water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
