I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn off the water at the nearest service valve or at the mains valve outside. If you can’t locate the water main shutoff valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on the cold taps inside and out to help depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We will be there shortly to resolve the problem.

While you wait, start cleaning up any water, place a container to catch any drips, and clear away valuable items from the affected area. If the property water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.
